The New Regime Ignites San Francisco at The Warfield

The New Regime is currently on the road with Angels & Airwaves as direct support for their North American fall tour, of whom ironically Ilan Ruben also plays drums for. So you can definitely expect a high-energy show and to hear new music off the new release, Heart, and forthcoming LP, Heart Mind Body & Soul. Topping it off, Rubin will not only be vocals and rhythm guitar for The New Regime, but will also be serving double duty as the drummer/member of Angels & Airwaves for the full tour.

Multi-instrumentalist Ilan Rubin is best known for his long-standing involvement withNine Inch Nails, Angels & Airwaves, and work with the likes of Paramore, Beck, Phantogram, M83, amongst others. But it can be argued that his best work happens when this one-man-band is fronting-and backing-The New Regime.

Since there’s no set-list to be found, and not even one on stage to take a pic of, I’m not going to try and guess what was what, but rather clue the readers in on how amazing this concert was. Deserving as a headliner … Ilan Ruben, aka The New Regime came to deliver his reminiscent energy of who he is and of what one would expect Ruben to be. His world class familiarity makes no mistake on that character. Ruben is kinda like the new Phil Collins in the fact that he can deliver regardless of what instrument he’s possessing on stage, including his vocals! And I gotta say Ilan has a great set of chops.

I’m not very familiar to his new music, but the fans seemed to be and there were sing-alongs, fist pumps, a few head bangs and many, many loud cheers. It was awesome to see the audience participation, but most of all see them having a killer time with smiles, enjoying that moment everyone came to see. The concert was on a Monday, probably the worst day of the week to have a performance, but The Warfield was packed to about 85% with the only limited available space being upstairs. I was impressed to see a very successful live show being pulled off.

So to end this review, Ruben turned me into a fan, especially after seeing him drumming with Angels And Airwaves who headlined after. A musician of all instruments, executed perfectly, flawlessly, precise and simply enjoyable … WOW

The New Regime is: Ilan Ruben
